Ted Talk Tuesday: Making Stress your Friend

Kelly McGonigal’s Ted Talk from 2013 is the most unique talk you’ll ever hear about stress!  We’ve all heard that stress kills.  In fact, for many years, she herself relayed that message to people, along with providing stress-coping strategies. Then she adapted her beliefs, after getting some revelations from a long-term study showing that it’s not stress that kills, but rather, how people react to stress. By changing how we face stress in our lives, we can make our lives healthier and happier.

I’m glad I stumbled upon Kelly’s Ted Talk; it was serendipity for me. I was feeling discouraged about reaching my goal of actually getting my book published and getting my name out there and establishing that all-important subscriber list (and on and on and on). Every once in a while I get to the point of telling myself that I should just give up.  Then I’ll see or hear something that kicks me in the butt and tells me to keep on keeping on. 

So today, it was reading about Kelly Mcgonigal In Wikipedia:  “Kelly McGonigal . . . is known for her work in the field of ‘science help’. . . as it relates to achieving personal goals despite inner conflict.”  And that’s me!  Despite my inner conflicts and the self-doubt that rears its head from time to time, I know that I want to stick to my goals and reach them.  Just one small step at a time.  Looks like it’s time to read her book: The Willpower InstinctIf you ever feel that self-doubt and a nasty voice inside your head saying “Give up, you’ll never get there,” you may just want to join me.
